The first genuine Gold rush took place at the end of the 17th century in eastern Brazil. Russia has long enjoyed rich mineral and Precious Metals deposits due to its sheer expanse of its territory. The Siberian Gold Rush took place from 1838 to 1839. The California Gold Rush began Jan. 24, 1848, when Gold was discovered by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill. This is the world's most famous discovery of Gold. Australia had three distinctive Gold rushes that took place in 1851, 1892 and 1893. The Black Hills Gold Rush took place in Dakota Territory in the United States in 1874 and reached a peak from 1876 to 1877. The last rush commemorated in this set is the Alaskan Gold Rush of 1896, better known as the Klondike Gold Rush or Yukon Gold Rush.
