perfect for the special birthday or the collector.  This beautiful highly detailed mid century gem is a rare find in new undisplayed condition.  This is a smaller model of the large "Great Owl" design that was briefly available for sale. This owl model was not sold to the public. Steuben designers would have small models of their designs made on a trial basis.  They would bring the models to meetings for evaluation and to be voted on by the Steuben design team members.
This beautiful sculpture has the superb styling that is a hallmark of Steuben. This mouth blown and hand polished Owl measures approx. 5" tall by 3" wide, with beautiful clarity and refraction of light.  This is a detailed hand made piece with applied ears, wide eyes, applied feet.  It is a complex design to produce at 2300 degrees F.  This early piece is
as new with no chips, no cracks, no scratches and no display or base bottom wear.
The Owl is signed "Steuben" in diamond point script on the bottom edge and was made in the USA at the Corning NY Steuben Glassworks of Steuben formula glass.

Steuben Glass was founded by Frederick Carder in 1903.  Renown as the world's foremost artisan glass house, Steuben glass was hand made by American craftsmen at the works in Corning NY.  Steuben glass was frequently the United States’ gift of State to foreign dignitaries. Steuben marketed no “seconds," items that did not meet their exacting production standards were destroyed by being smashed in a bin. Steuben--a recognized luxury brand.
